What Is Required For Salvation?

What exactly is required to be saved? This is an issue where the pendulum swings from one extreme to another. Some would say there is very little at all other than to invite Jesus into your heart. Some say we must keep all 613 laws found in the Bible. Where do we meet in the middle, and what does God expect from us regarding this critical issue?
