Do Saved People Go to Heaven?

Before any of us reach our destiny of eternal life there must first be a resurrection of the dead. The traditional teaching of heaven immediately upon death makes the resurrection totally unnecessary. What does the Bible really teach about the state of the dead and immortality?

Biblical Facts:

What did Jesus say about man going to heaven?
John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

Is King David, a man after God’s heart, in heaven?
Acts 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens…

Is King David still in the grave?
Acts 2:29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day.

Historical Facts:

Today’s concept of Heaven grew out of the doctrine of the immortal soul. If the soul is immortal, then it must have to reside some place until it is resurrected to eternal life. If the person has been wicked, then they must dwell in Hell forever, for they must be someplace. If they have been righteous, they rest in Heaven until the resurrection, at which time they will receive a spirit body and live forever with Christ in His Kingdom.

Wait a minute. If they are in Heaven, aren’t they already in the Kingdom with Christ? So, why wait until the resurrection?
